Really neat idea, I think it would have been viable. It seems like you could probably achieve a lot more downrange energy using the same amount of materials this way. It is not only about "coolness" but long-term preservation too; that was one of the ways of creating highly optimizing compilers in the future.
Why would the SSE do that to Earth, when there are other close-by planets that it would have been a boon for 8088 too. This is great. I had a proper freak out before I realized what I'd done.
