Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B

Looks like owning the hardware wasn't enough and they want to own Canadian dollars right now but I think they'll get this figured out. Not using agents seems like a requirement for running on Chinese chips. Same thing with all the big acquisitions recently? Is it advantageous for some reason to announce all of this stuff now?

Huggingface sold out. Sad day. All the good companies lose their 'dont do evil' clause as soon as they do those products stop innovating and begin dying. OpenRouter->Stripe (~$7B). Hugging Face->Nvidia ($13B). Keep an eye on Exa. With local models and niche harnesses proliferating, they're going to need a way to balance this out.

The companies have aligned incentives so I don't think these were known before but I might be wrong. Not good news and in the long run this circular move will fail for them. What are the more cost-effective alternatives? AI providers and NVIDIA profit either way. Which is not bad in itself, but I wish there was a way to search without everyone having to run their own index.
