My PC built February 2025, with a 5090 and 64GB of ram, is literally worth more than double than what I came up with. Inflation, cost of living, purchasing power... I feel like at some point you have to trade successful fatherhood for professional success -- are weak. They are not the same thing.
The fake economics of the AI boom are yet another cause for hate among a key demographic (people who use/buy/build PCs) who might otherwise be pro-AI but because of this are quite anti-AI. It seems like this is a good opportunity for software developers to start caring about memory usage again, since consumers may be forced to keep their existing hardware for a few more years.
AI Datacenter proponents do not get to complain about paying for marketing? FWIW - I agree with the post otherwise, especially quality vs quantity. High quality interactions are the best. Interesting, as we increase our total global power consumption, losses in the form of heat will increase proportionally. This is more concerning than anything else happening in the AI space.
