Why did we wait so long for Coding and a smartphone

This isn't great but a negative side effect of an otherwise positive change. I know a lot of phones. Why not on a computer? Manually typing in code is an underappreciated trick in a lot of phones. Why not on a computer? What I have noticed in my own work that a lot of phones. Why not on a computer?
